Zeal Qld

Zeal Theatre has been touring shows throughout Queensland since 1993. “Joyride”, by Louise Chapman, Rob Dilley & Stefo Nantsou, toured between ‘93-’95 playing over 250 performances statewide. Stefo returned to Qld with Zeal co-collaborator Tom Lycos in 1997 for a brief tour of their internationally acclaimed “The Stones” and played a short season around Brisbane metro schools.

In 2005, due to a demand by many Qld schools for Zeal-style productions, “The Stones” was re-cast with local Qld actors, Sam Foster and Adam Drake and toured exclusively for the Qld Arts Council. In 2007, after two highly successful years on the road with “The Stones” travelling to every corner of the state, the Qld Arts Council produced the second Zeal Qld production Stefo Nantsou’s award winning play “The Apology”. Sam and Adam, now touring two Zeal shows continued to wow Qld students and teachers alike, and added a further string to their bow by incorporating physical theatre and play-building workshops for schools and outback communities.

2008 saw the birth of the third Zeal Qld show, “The Forwards”, also written and directed by Stefo Nantsou, which also continues to tour Qld.  The show sees Sam and Adam join forces with new Zeal member, Christina Atkin.

In 2009, Zeal Qld continued to expand with the remount of the hugely successful “Joyride” consisting of an all Qld cast, Brad McDonald, Kate Baker and Jonathon Haselam and was directed by Mike Foster, one of Australia’s most experienced practitioners of children’s theatre.

With four shows currently in repertoire and many more new projects on the horizon, Zeal Qld continues to set a high standard for Theatre in Education in Qld.
