ZEAL THEATRE is a touring theatre company based in Sydney,
Australia. Founded in 1989 by actor/writer/director Stefo Nantsou,
Zeal is dedicated to creating original, educative and entertaining
theatrical productions for theatres, schools, universities,
national and international festivals. The multi-skilled ensemble
prides itself on a collective group-devising process utilizing
an eclectic mix of musical and theatrical styles. Zeal has
created 40 original productions; more than half have been specifically
created for teenage audiences.
Some Zeal highlights include "TATAU:Rites
of Passage" (co-produced with New Zealand company
Pacific Underground which performed sell-out seasons in Auckland
and Sydney in 1996); "JOYRIDE" (created
with Newcastle police and street-kids, was performed over
600 times between 1992-96); "AUSTRALIA
V SOUTH AFRICA" (commissioned by the S.T.C., & performed
with Durban duo Ellis & Bheki), and the world-renowned "THE
STONES" created by Stefo and co-collaborator
Tom Lycos in 1996 (performed over 1000 times worldwide including
seasons at the National Theatre in London, New Victory Theatre
in New York, De Krakeling in Amsterdam, and a cowshed in
Horn-Zaingrub, Austria). "THE
STONES" has
also been translated and performed in over 20 countries,
Stefo and Tom having directed the show in Dutch, Welsh, Hungarian,
Danish, German and Canadian.
In 2005, Zeal Theatre was awarded
the ASSITEJ President's
Award in Montreal for "outstanding services to the theatre
for young people industry".
Currently Zeal has 8 productions
in repertoire, including "THE

APOLOGY", "GRONKS", "TABOO", "AUSTRALIA
V SOUTH AFRICA" & "THE
BEST LITTLE TOWN IN THE WORLD".
